This directory contains patchsets against standard Linux serial
drivers. The process of adding the features implemented by the
patches is simple, but may require reference to distribution
specific documentation.

1 Acquire Kernel Source
------------------------
The first step in apply a kernel patch is to obtain kernel source.
The patches contained in this package are developed with vanilla
Linux kernel source from www.kernel.org. The patches may require
minor modification to apply properly to distribution specific
kernels. Most distributions allow developers to obtain the tools
and source necessary to build the distribution's kernel in their
package management system (apt, aptitude, synaptic, rpm, etc.)

2 Apply the Patchset(s)
------------------------
To apply a patch, use the command line application "patch" available
from the Free Software Foundation. Most likely your distribution
comes with it pre-installed. If not, it should be available from
their package management system. The use of the patch utility is
simple. Simply open a command line, navigate to the directory where
you keep your kernel source, and execute the patch command with the
proper switches.

	# cd /usr/src/linux
	# patch -p 1 -i sealevel-feature.patch

3 Rebuild the Kernel
------------------------
Depending on the patch and your kernel configuration, you may need to
rebuild the entire Linux kernel or just a portion (driver modules).
The process of building the kernel and the driver modules should be
detailed by the distribution documentation. Since the process varies
from distribution to distribution, that discussion goes beyond the
scope of this document.
